Secure video visits throughout Florida
Virtual Psychiatry in Florida
Renova Health provides telepsychiatry for eligible children age 5 and older, adolescents, adults, and older adults who are physically located in Florida at the time of the visit. Appointments are available in English and Spanish.
What telepsychiatry can include
Virtual visits may be used for comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, diagnostic clarification, medication review and management when appropriate, supportive psychotherapy, follow-up monitoring, education, and coordination with other clinicians. Florida law applies the same prevailing professional standard of practice to telehealth and in-person care.
The clinical work remains individualized. Dr. Brian Villa MD reviews symptoms, functioning, medical and psychiatric history, medications, sleep, substances, prior treatment, developmental and family context, safety, and goals. A video visit is not a shortcut around a full evaluation.
Who may be a good fit
- Patients who can join from a private, reasonably quiet location in Florida.
- Families who need more flexible access for a child or adolescent evaluation.
- Adults balancing work, caregiving, transportation, or mobility constraints.
- Established patients whose symptoms and treatment can be safely monitored by video.
Suitability depends on the person and the purpose of the visit. The clinician may recommend office-based assessment, medical examination, laboratory testing, local emergency care, or another service when video care cannot answer an important clinical or safety question.
How to prepare for a virtual visit
- Use a device with a working camera, microphone, reliable internet connection, and adequate battery power.
- Join from a private location and avoid driving during the appointment.
- Have a medication list, pharmacy information, relevant records, and questions available.
- For a minor, confirm which parent or legal guardian will participate and have any requested school or treatment information ready.
- Be prepared to confirm your current physical location and a callback number at the start of care.
Privacy and communication
Use the secure scheduling and clinical systems provided for care. The website's general contact form is for administrative questions and should not contain sensitive medical details. Privacy cannot be guaranteed when a patient joins from a shared space, public network, workplace, or moving vehicle.
Medication and telehealth
Medication decisions depend on an adequate evaluation, diagnosis, medical and psychiatric history, safety, applicable federal and Florida requirements, and Dr. Villa's clinical judgment. A virtual appointment does not guarantee that a particular medication will be prescribed. Some situations require records, testing, coordination with another clinician, or an in-person visit.
Questions patients often ask
Do I need to live in Miami?
No. Eligible patients may attend by video from elsewhere in Florida, but they must be physically located in Florida when the clinical service is provided.
Can a new patient start with telepsychiatry?
Often, yes. Whether video is appropriate is determined individually according to symptoms, safety, available information, age, technology, privacy, and the clinical purpose of the visit.
Can children and teenagers be seen virtually?
Eligible patients age 5 and older may be evaluated by telehealth. Parent or guardian participation, privacy, school information, developmental history, and the possible need for in-person assessment are considered.
Is a referral required?
Renova Health does not require a referral to request an appointment. A specific insurance plan may separately require a referral, authorization, or other documentation for coverage.
