PTSD Treatment in Miami
Evidence-based psychiatric evaluation and individualized care for patients age 5 and older in Miami and throughout Florida.
Understanding the concern
After a traumatic experience, some people develop persistent intrusive memories, avoidance, changes in mood or beliefs, and heightened alertness. Trauma responses vary, and not every distressing reaction meets criteria for post-traumatic stress disorder.
Common signs and symptoms
- Nightmares, intrusive memories, or feeling as if the event is happening again
- Avoiding reminders, conversations, places, or activities
- Emotional numbness, guilt, shame, detachment, or persistent negative beliefs
- Hypervigilance, irritability, exaggerated startle, or sleep problems
- Symptoms that interfere with relationships, school, work, or safety
What a psychiatric evaluation considers
Dr. Brian Villa, MD reviews trauma-related symptoms at a pace that respects the patient, along with mood, anxiety, sleep, substance use, medical history, medications, daily functioning, prior treatment, and current safety.
