Ongoing psychiatric care

Psychiatric Medication Management in Miami

Individualized medication decisions, monitoring, and follow-up with board-certified psychiatrist Dr. Brian Villa, MD.

Psychiatric medication management is an ongoing clinical process, not simply writing a prescription. Decisions consider the diagnosis being evaluated, symptom burden, medical history, current medications, prior treatment, side effects, daily functioning, and patient preferences.

A careful starting point

Medication recommendations begin with a psychiatric evaluation. Dr. Villa reviews what has and has not helped before, possible interactions or contraindications, relevant medical concerns, and nonmedication options. Treatment is individualized rather than based on a single symptom or online checklist.

What follow-up visits may include

Follow-up care may include:

  • Reviewing symptom change and day-to-day functioning
  • Monitoring side effects, adherence, sleep, appetite, and safety
  • Discussing expected benefits, limitations, and alternatives
  • Adjusting a medication only when clinically appropriate
  • Coordinating with a therapist, primary-care clinician, specialist, or family when authorized
  • Reviewing whether the current plan should continue, change, or be simplified

Medication and talk therapy

Medication may be used alone or alongside talk therapy, behavioral strategies, sleep improvement, medical care, school or workplace support, or another specialized treatment. Renova Health can provide talk therapy within psychiatric treatment and coordinate referral when longer-term or specialized psychotherapy is needed.

In-person and Florida telehealth visits

Appointments are available in Miami and by telehealth for eligible patients located in Florida. Prescribing requirements, clinical needs, age, and safety may affect which visit format is appropriate.
