Anxiety Treatment in Miami
Evidence-based psychiatric evaluation and individualized care for patients age 5 and older in Miami and throughout Florida.
Anxiety treatment begins by identifying the pattern behind the fear, not by assuming every anxious feeling is the same disorder. Dr. Brian Villa MD evaluates children age 5 and older, adolescents, adults, and older adults for persistent worry, panic, avoidance, physical anxiety, and related concerns.
When anxiety may need professional attention
Anxiety can be protective in a genuinely dangerous situation. It becomes a clinical concern when fear or worry is persistent, difficult to control, disproportionate to the situation, or interfering with sleep, school, work, relationships, health care, or ordinary activities.
- Worry that is difficult to stop or shifts from one subject to another.
- Panic attacks or persistent fear of another attack.
- Avoidance of driving, crowds, social situations, school, work, or medical care.
- Racing heart, shortness of breath, dizziness, nausea, muscle tension, or restlessness.
- Repeated checking, reassurance seeking, or fear of uncertainty.
- Irritability, poor concentration, fatigue, or disrupted sleep.
Anxiety disorders are not interchangeable
Generalized anxiety, panic disorder, social anxiety, phobias, separation anxiety, and other presentations have different triggers and maintaining patterns. Obsessive-compulsive disorder and trauma-related disorders can involve anxiety but require their own assessment. Depression, ADHD, autism-related needs, substance use, sleep disorders, medication effects, thyroid disease, cardiac conditions, and other medical problems can also resemble or intensify anxiety.
What the psychiatric evaluation considers
The evaluation reviews symptom onset, triggers, duration, physical symptoms, avoidance, panic, sleep, medications, substances, medical history, development, prior care, family history, functioning, and safety. Recent medical evaluation may be important when physical symptoms are new, severe, or unexplained. A diagnosis may require more than one visit or coordination with another clinician.
How anxiety treatment is selected
Treatment may include education, psychotherapy, medication, changes to sleep or substance use, medical coordination, or a combination. Cognitive behavioral and exposure-based therapies are well-supported for many anxiety presentations, but the exact method should match the diagnosis and age. Medication decisions account for expected benefit, side effects, interactions, medical history, previous response, and patient preference.
What improvement should mean
The goal is not to promise a life without anxiety. Meaningful progress may include less avoidance, fewer or less disruptive panic episodes, improved sleep, better participation in school or work, and a greater ability to tolerate uncertainty. Treatment targets should be specific enough to measure over time.
Appointments, language, and insurance
Renova Health is accepting new patients for in-office psychiatric appointments in Miami and telehealth for eligible patients located in Florida. Care is available in English and Spanish. The practice accepts many major Florida insurance plans; benefits, referral rules, and authorization requirements vary and are verified separately.
Questions patients often ask
Will medication be prescribed at the first visit?
Not automatically. The first priority is an adequate evaluation. Medication may be discussed when clinically appropriate and enough information is available.
Can anxiety cause physical symptoms?
Yes, but new or dangerous symptoms still require appropriate medical assessment. Psychiatric care should not replace emergency or medical evaluation when indicated.
Can I request an appointment without a referral?
Yes. A patient may request an appointment directly. A specific insurance plan may separately require a referral or prior authorization for coverage.
